Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 78: Shattered Bonds

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 78 delivers one of the most emotionally devastating and narratively critical twists of the entire Culling Game arc. After searching tirelessly for his sister,

Megumi Fushiguro finally finds Tsumiki—but the reunion is not what he hoped for.

Instead of joy, he’s met with confusion. Tsumiki’s behavior is distant, her speech strange. And then the truth is reveale: this is not the real Tsumiki. A cursed ancient sorcerer has possessed her body, awakened by Kenjaku’s ritual.

In a chilling monologue, the sorcerer inhabiting Tsumiki’s body mocks Megumi’s naivety, explaining how the Culling Game isn’t just a battle—it’s a ritual of reincarnation. Old sorcerers are reborn into modern vessels, and Tsumiki was just one of many unwilling hosts.

Megumi’s face says it all—shock, heartbreak, disbelief. He had dedicated everything to saving her, and now she stands before him not as a sister, but as an enemy. The emotional weight of the scene is suffocating,

made heavier by the fact that Megumi hesitates to fight, even as the sorcerer prepares to attack.

The chapter ends with Megumi dropping his guard for a split second, and the possessed Tsumiki takes full advantage, launching a cursed technique toward him. Whether he survives the hit or not remains unseen, but the damage—emotional and psychological—is already done.

Gege Akutami executes this twist masterfully,

balancing exposition with raw emotion. Chapter 78 is a tragedy disguise as a plot reveal. It reminds readers that in the Culling Game,

there are no safe reunions, no happy endings—only illusions and consequences.
