Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 73: Let the Culling Begin

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 73 sets the board for what may become the most violent and chaotic arc yet — the Culling Game. After Tengen’s major revelations in Chapter 72, the pieces finally begin to move as Kenjaku’s twisted tournament inches closer to activation.

The chapter opens with Master Tengen laying out the Culling Game’s rules, a carefully designed ritual created by Kenjaku (still in Suguru Geto’s body). The purpose? Forcefully awaken cursed energy in non-sorcerers across Japan and pit them against jujutsu users in a survival-style deathmatch.

The rules are both horrifying and strategic:

  • Players must score points by killing others.

  • Every participant has two options: fight or die.

  • No one can escape once they enter a barrier.

  • Every 19 days, if no points are gained, the player self-terminates.

Yuji listens with stone-cold intensity. His path is no longer a question of right or wrong — it’s survival for both himself and the innocents caught in Kenjaku’s web. Despite the emotional scars of Shibuya, he accepts what’s coming. This is no longer about fighting curses. It’s about stopping a systemic genocide.

We also get a key interaction between Yuta and Tengen, where Yuta hints at entering the game himself to protect others and watch Yuji’s back, further solidifying their complicated but crucial alliance.

The art is ominous and symbolic — with barrier maps, cursed zones, and foreshadowing of deadly encounters to come. Akutami is building a new battlefield unlike anything we’ve seen: a nation-wide, multi-player cursed survival game.

Chapter 73 doesn’t explode with action — it sharpens the knives. The Culling Game is the jujutsu world’s version of The Hunger Games, and Kenjaku is its twisted architect. And now, the countdown has begun.
