Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 140: Project Mouthbound – The Secret to Sukuna’s Return
Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 140 delivers a chilling turn in the Sukuna cult arc. Yuji Itadori, still undercover, discovers the disturbing heart of the organization: a ritual program called Project Mouthbound, designed to replicate Sukuna’s vessel using modified cursed genetics.
The chapter opens with Yuji shadowing a junior cultist through the tunnels. They enter a lab-like corridor with glowing vats—each containing deformed clones, some with one face, some with two mouths, and one with four sets of eyes. All are marked with a sigil resembling the Sukuna crest.
Yuji reads a nearby tablet:
“Stability reached at 23% for Vessel Type-3. Awaiting soul imprint.”
In the center, a massive embryo floats in cursed fluid—larger than the rest. A voice from behind announces:
“He won’t need to hijack your body next time.”
Enter Toudou—or the person wearing his face.
He explains the truth behind Project Mouthbound:
“You were the prototype, Yuji. But now, we can grow vessels that won’t resist. That will accept Sukuna willingly.”
Yuji’s eyes widen. This isn’t just about worship—it’s about replication, mass-production, and controlling the King of Curses.
Worse, the cult has somehow obtained fragments of Yuji’s cursed DNA—possibly from past battles, or a traitor inside Jujutsu High. This explains the clone-like nature of the new vessels.
Yuji knows he can’t stay undercover much longer. He sends a silent distress pulse using a cursed technique seal embedded by Shoko before the mission began. The countdown begins.
The chapter ends with the large embryo opening a mouth—not to speak, but to laugh. The same mocking laugh Sukuna once made during the Shibuya Incident.
Chapter 140 is deeply unsettling and brilliantly crafted. Gege Akutami takes the myth of Sukuna and reframes it as a scientific horror, where identity, control, and memory blur into one terrifying experiment.
