Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 138: Echoes of the King – A New Curse Rises in Yuji’s Path

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 138 kicks off the next arc with tension, mystery, and a slow burn toward something terrible.

The chapter opens with Yuji Itadori traveling alone through a rural village near Mount Kiso, assigned to investigate a series of low-level curse-related disappearances. Expecting a simple clean-up mission, he finds an eerie silence and signs of ritualistic offerings—candles, bones, and markings that resemble Sukuna’s own crest.

Yuji senses something wrong immediately.

As he explores a burned-out shrine, he’s attacked—not by a cursed spirit, but by a young sorcerer cloaked in black, bearing a mocked-up version of Sukuna’s face tattooed across his mouth.

The cultist speaks:
“You carry the King. And when he returns… we will be ready.”

Yuji is caught off guard, not by the attack—but by the implication:
Sukuna’s influence is spreading again.

He fights the sorcerer swiftly, but it’s clear this isn’t a lone madman. Symbols found around the village point to a network of curse worshippers, now regrouping in the power vacuum left after Gojo’s ascension and the Veilwalker’s fall.

Meanwhile, back at Jujutsu High, Yuta confronts the elders—demanding transparency on “Operation Black Soil”, a classified surveillance mission targeting former Sukuna vessels and sympathizers.

The final page shows Yuji standing alone at the shrine, the defeated cultist’s body at his feet. Behind him, a mural of Sukuna, freshly painted in blood, reads:

“The King Rises When the Sorcerers Sleep.”

Chapter 138 is dark and foreshadow-heavy. Gege Akutami pulls us back into Yuji’s journey, not as a vessel—but as the last thread tying humanity to Sukuna’s unfinished reign.
