Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 117: Clash of Eras – Gojo Steps Up to Face Ishiguro
Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 117 launches us straight into a tension-filled buildup, teasing what may become one of the most iconic clashes in the manga’s history: Gojo Satoru vs Ishiguro Reien, the sorcerer lost to time.
The chapter opens with the Jujutsu High council in panic. Despite their usual posturing, even the elders agree—if Ishiguro has truly returned, the entire balance of cursed energy theory and practice could collapse. His techniques are pre-modern, unrestricted by modern Jujutsu laws. He’s a wild card… and a relic of a time when death was the foundation of power.
Yuta proposes sealing or assassinating Ishiguro before he regains full strength, but Gojo refuses.
“He was sealed once, like me. I know what that does to a man. If someone must face him—
it’ll be me.”
Elsewhere, Ishiguro stands over a shrine made of shattered talismans, calmly preparing a curse-forged army using remnants of ancient disciples buried beneath Japan’s oldest temples. His plan? Reset the sorcerer world by tearing down every institution created after his fall.
Yuji and Megumi, still recovering, plead to join the coming mission, but Gojo warns them:
“This isn’t your battle… yet.”
The chapter’s final double-spread shows Gojo walking into a mist-filled temple—his Six Eyes glowing—while Ishiguro waits barefoot, surrounded by cursed script and silence.
“You’re the strongest?” Ishiguro asks.
“Not yet,” Gojo replies. “But after I beat you, I will be.”
Chapter 117 is a thunderous drumbeat before war. Gege Akutami pits philosophy against raw tradition, modern evolution against archaic supremacy, and hints that the next few chapters will reshape the very concept of sorcery itself.
